Lighting has been a defining element of Craftsman style since the dawn of the
American Arts & Crafts movement in the early 1900s. At the turn of the last century,
new homes were being wired for electricity. While electric power was a bit unreliable
in those days (some fixtures were designed to accommodate both gas and electric light),
this didn't dampen many a Craftsman designer's enthusiasm, and both manufactured
and hand-wrought designs proliferated.
We have selected several lines for their appropriateness, quality and value:
- Arroyo Craftsman, featuring indoor and outdoor
lighting in several Craftsman sub-styles from Prairie
School to Japanesque lanterns frequently associated
with California bungalows
- Cherry Tree Design, offering Mission and Prairie
and Asian-influenced table lamps, floor lamps,
torchieres and lanterns in Oak, Cherry, Walnut or
Maple, featuring Mica or Art-glass shades
- Mica Lamp Company, the leading producers of
mica-shaded lamps inspired by the work of Arts &
Crafts metalworking pioneer Dirk Van Erp. Mica Lamps
feature a dark copper patina finish in many sizes and
styles. They also offer wooden bases in Oak or Cherry and styles
appropriate for Mission Revival/Spanish and
Tudor Revival homes.
- Leading makers of reproduction Craftsman-era
lighting fixtures for kitchen, bath, living rooms,
hallways, porches and landscape
- Makers of custom Craftsman era light
fixtures for unique applications
